Edging
De Gorter, Inc is pleased to offer edging machinery from
Schiatti
Angelo, s.r.l.
Schiatti has been making both vertical and horizontal glass edgers
for over thirty years, and their machines are known world wide for
the strength, and the simplicity of their design. Schiatti machines
are extremely user friendly.
Schiatti manufacturers over 30 models of vertical edgers, so we can
offer you a machine designed to fit your specific production
requirements. These machines are broken down into vertical and
horizontal, referring to the orientation of the glass while being
transported through the machine.
For your convenience, we have broken our edger section down into
Vertical and Horizontal.
Vertical Glass Edgers:
Schiatti offers 31 models of both peripheral and cup wheel, vertical edgers. The differences between them are described below.
Peripheral Wheel Edgers:
These edgers are used when you wish to be able to manufacture a
variety of edge styles, such as pencil, Ogee, waterfall, triple
pencil, or other variations. They run a little faster than cup wheel
edgers, but require more diamond and polishing wheels. This is
because you need to have diamond and polishing wheels for each
specific edge profile, and in most applications, for each glass
thickness as well.
Schiatti manufacturers nine variations of peripheral wheel edgers,
with as little as two wheels and as many as eight. The glass
thickness and edge profile will determine how many spindles are
required to properly fabricate your glass product.
Cup Wheel Edgers:
These edgers are used to produce flat edge, with or without an arris.
Some models can be used for producing mitered glass, in addition to
the flat edge. The benefit of these machines is that you only
require one set of wheels, which will edge and polish all glass
thicknesses for which the machine was designed to process. The set up
time is minimal, compared to that of peripheral wheel edgers, and
only minor adjustments need to be made when changing glass
thicknesses.
Schiatti manufacturers 23 versions of cup wheel edgers. Seven of
these are capable of mitering, and 16 are able to process glass as
small as 2”x2”. In addition, 13 models use cerium slurry and felt
wheels for furniture quality finishes. Several models use a cerium
rubber wheel to achieve the same results, but without the mess
associated with cerium slurry.
Horizontal Glass Edgers: Double Edgers
Schiatti offers 22 different models of horizontal, sometimes referred to as “double edgers”, in both cup and peripheral wheel designs. Double edgers are best suited for high volume production of glass panels of identical size. These edgers grind and polish two sides of the glass sheet, simultaneously. Two edgers can be joined by a right angle transfer table, creating a double edging line. These lines allow companies to put raw glass into the line and have it exit, completely ground and polished, without intervention of the operator to realign the glass sheets. Schiatti also offers a dubbing option, to grind off the sharp corners. These dubbing units are completely automatic and able to dub at high speeds. There are currently over 100 Schiatti double edgers in operation in the United States alone.
Peripheral Wheel Double Edgers:
Schiatti can offer 17 models of peripheral wheel double edgers. They
can process glass from as thin as 2 mm and the maximum thickness of
12 mm. Some versions are designed for running louver strips
exclusively, while others can open as large as 120”. The minimum
glass size varies from either 3.2” or 6.5”, depending on the model.
Schiatti can customize any model to meet the customer’s specific
production requirements concerning production speeds and edge
profiles, although peripheral wheel double edgers are best suited
for pencil edge grinding for shelving and similar rectangular
products produced in large quantities. Schiatti can vary the number
of diamond and polishing spindles and can supply machine with or
without dubbing spindles. Maximum speeds can vary from a standard of
390” per minute, up to 700” per minute upon request. Schiatti
understands that production requirements vary from company to
company and they are well suited to produce machines that fit the
customer’s specific requirements.
Cup Wheel Double Edgers:
As described above, Schiatti manufactures 5 different versions of
cup wheel double edgers. They can process glass as small as 6.5” and
can open as large as 120”. Cup wheel designs can not run as fast as
peripheral wheel wheels designs, due to the smaller surface area of
diamond on a cup wheel as opposed to a peripheral wheel, but they
can still save valuable production time when compared to vertical
edgers. Again, the key to considering double edgers is the volume of
glass to be process, which have the same dimensions. If the volume
of identically sized glass is large, then double edgers are
economical. However, if sizes vary, vertical edgers may be better
suited for production.
